Eid outfit ideas for men

Eid outfits for men: kurta pyjama, pathani, sherwani and modern options. Three budgets with real brands, prayer dress tips, and grooming.

Updated 10 Oct 2026

Eid starts with prayer and ends with a long day of visits and food. You need an outfit that is modest for the mosque, sharp for photos, and comfortable at the table. The traditional options are a kurta pyjama, a pathani suit, or a sherwani for the evening. The modern option is a plain linen kurta with chinos. This guide gives each choice, three budget looks, and what to leave out.

Traditional or modern

Traditional is a white, cream, or pastel kurta pyjama, or a pathani suit with a waistcoat. White is the classic prayer colour. Pastel blue, sage, and beige are common for visits. Modern is a plain linen or cotton kurta with chinos and clean loafers, or an untucked shirt with a Nehru jacket. Pick one outfit for prayer and one for the afternoon. Cover your knees and shoulders at the mosque. Wear a topi if you usually do. Carry a clean one.

  • Prayer: white or cream cotton kurta pyjama, topi, clean socks.
  • Visits: pastel kurta with waistcoat, or a pathani suit.
  • Evening: a silk-blend kurta or a sherwani in a deep colour.

Climate note

Eid moves about ten days earlier each year, so it falls in every season over time. In summer, choose cotton and linen in white and light colours. In winter, add a waistcoat or a shawl. In monsoon, choose a darker kurta that hides splashes and carry a pair of shoes you can wash. Check the forecast before you pick fabric. A silk kurta in 38 degrees ruins photos.

Three looks by budget

Prices are approximate. Fabindia, Manyavar, and The Souled Store cover most needs. Local shops in Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Mumbai sell good pathani suits.

Prayer and morning, tight budget

  • Fabindia or local white cotton kurta, about ₹1,200
  • Matching pyjama, about ₹500
  • Clean sandals or slip-ons

Budget under 1,500 for the kurta and pyjama

Plain white, pressed, and well fitted. This is the correct outfit and it costs little.

Visits and lunch, mid range

  • Manyavar or Fabindia pastel kurta, about ₹2,500
  • Fabindia waistcoat, about ₹2,000
  • Leather mojaris, about ₹1,500

Budget 1,500 to 4,000 for the kurta and waistcoat each

A waistcoat lifts a plain kurta for photos and works again at weddings.

Evening dinner, upper range

  • Manyavar or Rare Rabbit sherwani or bandhgala, about ₹8,000
  • Plain kurta underneath, about ₹1,800
  • Leather mojari, about ₹2,500

Budget 4,000 to 10,000 for the main piece

Pick a dark colour like navy, maroon, or bottle green. Rent a sherwani if you wear it once.

  • Buy white cotton first. It works for prayer, visits, and Friday after Eid.
  • Iron the kurta the night before. Creases show in white.

Prayer dress, plainly

Wear clean clothes with no loud prints or logos. Cover knees and shoulders. Many men wear white. Remove your shoes at the entrance, so wear socks without holes. Keep a spare pair if the day is long. Pick shoes you can slip on and off quickly. Keep your phone silent and your pockets light.

How to make white look sharp

White is the Eid colour, and it is also the least forgiving. Choose a fabric with some weight, such as a cotton with a tight weave, so it does not show your skin or your vest. Wear a vest in a skin tone, not a white one, under a white kurta. Check the collar and cuffs for stains the night before. Steam the kurta rather than ironing it hard, since hard ironing can leave a shine. Pick pyjama pants one shade off white, such as cream or ivory, so the outfit has depth. Keep your shoes clean and plain. A good white kurta, pressed and well cut, looks richer than any embroidered one. Finish with a plain watch and nothing else.

What to stop buying

Stop buying a new sherwani every Eid. Stop buying shiny polyester kurtas. They look cheap and are hot. Stop buying tight pathani suits you cannot sit in. Buy one good waistcoat and rotate kurtas under it.

Grooming in one line

Get a trim before Eid, keep your beard neat, and wear an alcohol-free attar instead of a spray.

Questions

What should men wear on Eid?

A white or pastel kurta pyjama is classic. A pathani suit or a waistcoat over a kurta looks sharper. A sherwani works for an evening event.

What colour should men wear on Eid?

White for prayer. Pastel blue, sage, beige, and maroon for visits. Avoid loud prints.

Can men wear jeans on Eid?

Not to prayer. For the afternoon, a linen kurta with chinos works. A kurta with dark jeans is fine at casual visits.

What should I wear to Eid prayer?

Clean, modest clothes that cover knees and shoulders. A cotton kurta pyjama and a topi is the safest choice.
