Dubai packing guide for women

What to wear in Dubai: malls, beaches, desert safari and dinner. Modesty notes, packing lists by trip length, and looks in AED at three budgets.

Updated 10 Oct 2026

Dubai is relaxed about clothes, but it has limits. Malls are cold, the beach is hot, the desert is dusty and dinners are dressy. Pack lightweight layers, one modest outfit and one glam outfit. Prices here are in AED, so you can plan before you shop at Namshi, Ounass, Zara, H&M or Mango.

Modesty note

Dubai is welcoming to visitors. You can wear most things in malls, hotels, beaches and restaurants. Outside those places, such as old Dubai, souks and mosques, cover your shoulders and knees. Inside a mosque, cover your hair and wear a long loose outfit. During Ramadan, dress more modestly and avoid eating or drinking in public in the daytime. Swimwear belongs at the beach and pool. Cover up when you walk through a lobby.

  • Malls: cover shoulders and knees. It is not required, but common.
  • Old Dubai and souks: loose and long is the norm.
  • Mosques: long sleeves, ankle-length, and a headscarf.
  • Ramadan: choose modest clothes and be discreet with food.

Outfit formulas in AED

Each has footwear and one accessory.

Mall day

  • Cotton midi dress or a shirt with wide trousers, about AED 90 (H&M or Max)
  • Light cardigan for the freezing AC, about AED 60
  • Footwear: comfortable sneakers, about AED 120 (Namshi)
  • Accessory: a crossbody bag, about AED 60

Budget under AED 100

Malls are huge and cold. Layers and good shoes are the answer.

Desert safari

  • Linen shirt in a light colour, about AED 110 (Zara or Uniqlo)
  • Cotton trousers, about AED 120 (H&M or Mango)
  • Footwear: closed trainers, about AED 180 (Namshi)
  • Accessory: a light scarf for sand and sun, about AED 40

Budget AED 100 to 300

Light colours reflect the sun. A scarf protects face and neck from dust.

Beach club

  • Swimsuit with a cover-up kaftan, about AED 200 (Zara, H&M or Marks & Spencer)
  • Wide-brim hat, about AED 60
  • Footwear: sliders, about AED 80
  • Accessory: oversized sunglasses, about AED 100

Budget AED 100 to 300

You look glamorous at the beach club and covered on the walk back.

Fine dining

  • Satin midi dress or a jumpsuit, about AED 350 (Mango, Zara or Ounass labels)
  • Light shawl, about AED 100
  • Footwear: block heels, about AED 250 (Namshi)
  • Accessory: statement earrings, about AED 120

Budget AED 300 to 800

Dubai restaurants lean dressy. A polished dress is right.

Packing list by trip length

Three days: two day outfits, one beach set, one dinner outfit, a light layer, one pair of sneakers and sandals. Five days: add one more day outfit, a desert-safari outfit and a second dinner look. Seven days: add a second swimsuit and a cardigan. Indoor air conditioning is strong. Pack a layer even in July.

  • Three days: six or seven items.
  • Five days: ten items.
  • Seven days: twelve to fourteen items.
  • Shop for sunscreen and perfume there. They are good and quick.

Shopping in Dubai

You may buy clothes in Dubai itself. Malls such as Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Hills stock Zara, H&M, Mango, Marks & Spencer and local labels. Namshi and Ounass deliver to hotels in a day. The Dubai Shopping Festival and summer sales cut prices by up to half. If you plan to shop, pack light and leave room. Check the baggage limit for your airline. Keep the receipts for tax refunds at the airport if you are eligible.

  • Leave a third of your bag empty if you plan to shop.
  • Check Namshi for same-day delivery to hotels.
  • Bring a foldable bag for purchases.
  • Try shoes on in the afternoon, when feet are slightly swollen.

On the plane

Wear loose trousers, a long-sleeved tee and sneakers. Carry a shawl. You will go from cool air to hot air at arrival, so keep layers easy to remove.

Climate note

November to March is the best time, with 22 to 30 degrees. April and October are warm. May to September is extremely hot, 40 to 48 degrees, with high humidity. In summer, you will spend most of the day in malls and hotels. Plan indoor outfits, a sun hat and sunscreen. Evenings stay warm.

Colour and silhouette

Dubai is bright and shiny. Soft neutrals, white, sand and tan look good in the heat. Jewel tones look good at dinner. A loose, long silhouette is comfortable and respectful. For dinner, a fitted waist or a belt adds shape. Match colour to your undertone. Warm skin tones suit sand, terracotta and gold. Cool skin tones suit navy, rose and silver.

  • Choose breathable cotton, linen or viscose by day.
  • Satin and crepe work well at night.
  • Keep shoes comfortable. Distances are huge.
  • A pashmina doubles as scarf and cover.

What to stop buying for Dubai

Stop buying heavy fabrics for a summer trip. Stop buying outfits that show too much for malls and souks. Stop buying ten pairs of shoes. Buy two good ones. Stop buying heavy beach bags. You can buy the rest there.
