Jaipur packing guide for women

What to wear in Jaipur: forts, bazaars and palace dinners for women. Packing lists by trip length, modesty notes, looks at three budgets.

Updated 10 Oct 2026

Jaipur rewards colour. The city is pink, the bazaars are loud and the forts are huge. You will climb stairs, walk on stone and shop for hours. Pack light cotton, a few bold prints and shoes with grip. Here are looks, a modesty note and packing lists for three, five and seven days.

Modesty and respect

Jaipur is a traditional city. Temples, old city bazaars and the City Palace expect covered shoulders and knees. Tourists wear many things, but you will feel more comfortable and get less attention in loose, longer clothes. A long kurta with trousers, a maxi dress with sleeves, or a shirt dress all work. Carry a stole or dupatta. It covers shoulders at a temple and shades you at a fort. Skip very short shorts and low necklines in the old city.

  • Cover shoulders and knees at temples and in the walled city.
  • Carry a dupatta. It is sun shield, shawl and temple cover in one.
  • Shorts are fine at your hotel pool and resort.
  • Remove shoes at temples. Wear socks if the stone is hot.

Forts, bazaars and a palace dinner. Each has shoes and one accessory.

Packing list by trip length

Three days: two kurta sets, one long dress, one pair of linen trousers, a stole, sandals and a hat. Five days: add one more kurta, a light shirt, a palace-dinner outfit and a light jacket for winter evenings. Seven days: add a second dinner outfit and a pair of sneakers. Jaipur is full of block-print shops. Leave room in your bag for souvenirs.

  • Three days: six to seven items.
  • Five days: nine to ten items.
  • Seven days: twelve items. Laundry is easy.
  • Pack a foldable tote for shopping.

On the plane or train

Wear loose cotton trousers, a long tee or shirt, and sneakers. Tie a stole around your neck. Carry your palace outfit in your cabin bag. It stays unwrinkled.

Climate note

October to February is ideal. Days are 20 to 28 degrees and nights are 8 to 15. Carry a shawl. March to June is very hot, up to 45 degrees. Wear cotton and cover your head. Monsoon is green and humid, with short rain. Pack a light rain jacket.

Colour and silhouette

Jaipur is a colour city. Block prints in indigo, rust and mustard look right at home. Warm skin tones glow in terracotta and mustard. Cool skin tones glow in indigo, rose and teal. Keep the silhouette long and loose. Pair a print on top with a plain bottom, so the outfit does not overwhelm. Block print on both is lovely if the colours match.

  • Pair a printed kurta with a plain bottom.
  • Indigo is easy and goes with everything.
  • Choose one bold colour as your hero.
  • Keep jewellery silver for a block-print look.

What to stop buying for Jaipur

Stop buying white cotton for the dusty bazaars. Stop buying heeled sandals for cobbled forts. Stop buying heavy embroidered pieces for daytime. Buy the lovely block prints in the city itself instead of packing them.
